I've noticed that more and more students are getting motivated by learning through technology.
We have to improve our knowledge and give them the opportunity to learn a language in many different ways.
Once students create digital content, they become commited to what they created and they will always try to get some feedback from what they did. This is a different way of learning a language, because they will try to do their best.
An important drawback is related to shy students. There are some students that have great difficulty in exposing themselves.
I think this kind of activity is better when teachers have just a few students at the same time. Otherwise it's difficult for the teacher to have an effective control of it.
Hi, Ana! I like your reflection! When it comes to dealing with shy students, I think we can dodge that problem by using different strategies such as assigning some activities as homework rather than do them in class (where students feel exposed in front of the others). We can try all sorts of activities and they don't have to be presentations. Perhaps, we can create a class blog and have the students take shifts to post personal movie recommendations (about movies they like). The,, we could ask them to leave a comment in at least two other classmates' posts. What do you think?
ResponderExcluirCreating digital content is a door to having a real audience see and give feedback to the learning products produced by students. And that is magical. It gives students a sense of online community and values their hard-work.
ResponderExcluirIn relation to shy students, there are several ways in which you can address that. Lucas has already pointed out a very interesting one. We do have to be attentive not to expose students on the web without parents' permission. Also, I believe that by engaging shy students in group activities can be hugely beneficial, and this is a great way to do so... :)
Hey Ana! I see your point when you mention the motivation students have while using technology in class. There's no doubt, we, as teachers, need to be aware of new ways to implement them to make the learning process more enjoyable.
ResponderExcluirHi Ana!
ResponderExcluirIt was nice of you to point out the challenge that it might be for shy students to have a go and try out new technologies. From my experience, we may be surprised by our shy students' production. Sometimes, having a chance to be heard without being seen is what they need. If you go for online activities, like blogging, but without a clear declaration of authoship, chances are your shy students will feel safer and more willing to contribute.
